David Sink, Kite Surf Wilmington Kite Surfing Instructor

Meet David

My name is David Sink and I have been teaching kitesurfing for 8 years. When I wanted to learn to Kitesurf the local instructors were charging $180 an hour and I thought it was highway robbery and that there had to be a better way. When I became a skilled kitesurfer I wanted to give back and offer lessons that are affordable, and throughout the years I have developed a teaching platform that is second to none and allows the student the ability to have a wonderful time and progress quickly.

I will happily give instruction to anyone who wants to try to learn this sport, but I must caution people who do not live within 3 hours of a beach, it is very hard to maintain your skills if you are not near an ocean and learning everything needed to be a great kitesurfer while you’re on vacation for a week can be very difficult. But I am always willing and happy to try.

I can teach kids 10 and up how to fly the trainer kite. These differing kite experiences give them some demo time with the large kitesurfing kite as well as the trainer kite. Kids always have an incredible time and build confidence.

If you live in the area and have always wanted to give this incredibly wonderful sport a try, give me a call or text at (803) 528-4994.

We’re here to help.

Get Started, No Matter Your Experience

All of the gear is supplied, but I am happy to instruct in your own gear. It does not cost extra to teach multiple people if you have a party of more than one, but it does take longer for each person to learn. We are flexible and can accommodate you based on your goals. Prior surfing experience is not necessary, but some can find it helpful.

Build your confidence

A typical introduction lesson involves one hour of flying a trainer kite, 45 minutes of track flying a true-sized Kitesurfing Kite, and then about an hour of downwind body dragging. Typically the board is not introduced until the second lesson. By your fourth session, we will work on a downwinder- or a trip down the beach and learning to ride the waves!

Expand your potential

It takes most people 3 to 5 lessons before they can kitesurf on their own. I offer a complimentary consultation if you would like a second opinion when purchasing your equipment. I also offer complimentary group kitesurfing sessions for seasoned kitesurfers who want to join an awesome community of local kitesurfers.

Pricing for an average introductory session of around 3 hours starts at $250.

Please call or text (803) 528-4994 for more information.

Introductory Lesson - $125

Introductory lessons are a great way for someone to experience Kite Surfing for the first time. This 2-hour session involves a beach lesson where the surfer learns how to fly the trainer kite. After learning how to fly the trainer kite, they will move on to flying the “12-Meter Kite Surfing Kite”.

Once the student can safely navigate using the kites on the beach, they are ready for their second lesson with introduction to the water!

*Please note, an introductory lesson does not include time in the water.

Intermediate Lesson - $250

This Intermediate lesson is 3-5 hours, depending on wind conditions. In this session, the student will spend an hour with the trainer kite and a following 2-4 hours to cover Kite Setup, Launch, Safety Systems, and Body Dragging in the water, if conditions allow.
